A Human Geography Lesson for my students Una lezione di geografia umana per i miei studenti

"Tomorrow I'll go to my village, to reach my wife and my children in my house, " so Kailash was speaking me by telephone, saturday 28 april.
The village is twelve km far from Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, India,

where my friend works in the Hotel H*, and where he and his beloved family are living in a rented flat.

"It' s a very good choice, Kallu," I answered him, in this way your children aren' t spending all the time playing in your overbuilt courtyard or your son, above all, watching tv, they can live more the natural life of the saisons, between the animals and the flowers of the fields and of the jungle"
(I' m dreaming, everyday, to sleep feeling the hearth of the indian nights in his old house, hearing only the deep silence of the breath of the sleeping life of the men and of the animals under the shining eyes of the stars , in the hearth of the country of Madya Pradesh finding my far off childhood " )
" Yes", but the reason was very different : In Khajuraho there is no more water in the tanks, the water is no more drawing from the wells.
whereas in the village it 's possible again draw water, because near there is a lake, a small river.
But if in the small village there is again water, the electricity daily there is no more than then hours , half when it's still light, half at night: and my friend and his family will be forced to return to Khajuraho the end of the week .
" After I'll go to Chhattarpur to take cans for 600 litres of water."
My friend afterwards has indicated me how many water he and his family need every day, delivered a the pumps, waiting for hours and hourd with the sequence number.
" Twelve litres, to wash me, twelve litres for my wife, twelve for my son, like for my daughter, twelve litres needs to cook in the kitchen "
" I suppose, Kailash, that you don't eat, now, much rice. The rice needs a great quantity of water to grow and to be cooked"

" Yes, to cook rice needs two litres, the chappati- the bred -or vegetables needs less water "
Sixty litres the requirement every day, six hundred litres, in the cans, the supply that my friend and his family try to save save for ten days."
"Six hundred litres, one hundred rupees..."
" Do you spend for the water three hundred rupees every month?
" Three hundred fifty, four hundred.."
In India three hundred , four hundred rupees are a third, a quarter of a colie's , or dalt's monthly salary , of the monthly salary of my friend.
"It 's very, very much, Kallu"
"Yes, Very, very much" .
The water, so, now costs in India, for the poor people, a part of salary like a monthly rent of a flat in Italy.

After we spoke about the small baby in the womb of his wife, about the new bed for him. " Now I and my wife we sleep on the ground, leaving the bed to my son and my daughter"

Kallu, my dear, my happy friend, however it goes! May my students hear your words , feel in your words your faithful, trusting , beliving hearth!
However it goes!

Versione in italiano

" Seicento litri, cento rupie".
Kallu, mio caro amico, mio amico felice, comunque vada!
